Steelhawks Hockey

  • A three-goal third period helped the Superior Heights Steelhawks to a high school hockey tie on Sunday evening. Trailing 5-2 entering the third period, the Steelhawks battled back to earn a 5-5 tie with the Korah Colts Sunday at the GFL Memorial Gardens. 

  • The Steelhawks take to the ice again on Wednesday November 27th as Superior Heights faces CASS in a 3:30 p.m. puck drop at the John Rhodes Community Centre.

Cross County

  • NOSSA Results:

    • The Northern Ontario Secondary School Athletics (NOSSA) cross-country championship was held on Wed Oct 23rd. 

    • Taryn Greco of Superior Heights finished third in the senior girl’s 6.2 km race with a time of 25:22.

    • In the junior girl’s 5.1 km event, Hannah Heimonen of Superior Heights finished third with a time of 20.58.

  • City Final Results: 

    • Three members of the Superior Heights team were tops in the girl’s runs.

    • Taryn Greco took top spot in the senior girl’s 6000m run with a time of 26:01.21, which was over two minutes faster than Jimena Redondo of White Pines.

    • In the junior girl’s 5000m run, Hannah Heimonen took top spot with a time of 21:04.27. Celeste Schoahs of Superior Heights was third with a time of 23:33.24.

    • In the midget girl’s 4000m, Taya Shackleton was in top spot with a time of 17:59.27.

    • In the boy’s senior 6000m race, Mark Keenan of Superior Heights finished second with a time of 21:34.49.

    • In the midget boy’s 4000m, Owen Case was second with a time of 16:30.55 and Thomas MacMichael finished third (17:14.39).

  • NOSSA will be held locally on Wednesday October 23rd

  • 9 Students qualified for OFSSA!

Steelhawk Girls' Basketball

  • The Steelhawks defeated Sudbury’s Lo-Ellen Park Knights 58-54 to earn a berth in the three-day, Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations (OFSAA) AA championships, slated to begin Thursday in Kingsville, Ont. Hannah Heimonen poured in 22 points for the winners while Taryn Greco added 13 and Brayden Corbett-Lewis eight. Way to go Steelhawks!

  • The Steelhawks beat the Korah Colts 50-37 Friday at Sault College to win the senior city girl’s high school title. Good luck this weekend in Sudbury in the AA/AAA Northern Ontario Secondary Schools Association (NOSSA) tournament.
